Dream Campaign Celebration Dinner, 4th February 2013
A dinner was hosted by Board Members of the Foundation on 4th February 2013 to celebrate the achievement of the first-phase fundraising target of $100 million of the " Dream of Wah Yan " Campaign launched since September 2007. Over 180 donors, alumni, Jesuits, teachers, staff members and friends of the 3 Wah Yan Schools attended the event.
In his welcome speech, Rev. Deignan SJ, Chairman of the Foundation, thanked all donors, alumni, staff members and friends of Wah Yan and Members of the Foundation for their efforts in helping the Schools. Their support was indicative of their love for Wah Yan, without which the Foundation could not have reached this milestone. Fr Deignan reassured that all the funds raised would be deployed to improve the quality of teaching and whole person development for students in Wah Yan. He also put forward that the Foundation would continue its fundraising and bonding initiatives in the years ahead.
Rev. Stephen Chow SJ, Supervisor of both Wah Yan Colleges in Hong Kong and Kowloon, gave an update of the development in the two Schools, in which improvements in music, sport and many other areas had been observed. Most importantly, a fighting spirit was nurtured among students as they gave their best in their pursuance for academic excellence and personal development. Rev. Chow said that the Schools would continue their care for our teachers and students and that the support from alumni would be paramount.
In response to Rev. Chow's update, Mr Fong Hup, Vice Chairman of the Foundation, thanked the 3 Wah Yan Schools, their staff members and principals for their invaluable support to the fundraising initiatives organised by the Foundation over the years. As a token of our appreciation for their leadership, Mr Fong presented a souvenir to the 3 principals. Mr Fong reassured that the Foundation would further its support to the Schools for the good of our young Wahyanites.
A report on the Alan Tam and Tam Fundraising Concert, held on 22nd December 2012, was presented by Mr Francis Yuen, Chairman of the Organising Committee. Francis commended that our School orchestra had demonstrated a remarkable quality of musical talents and team spirit. He thanked all the performers, teachers, donors and the organising team, in particular Laurence Tse and Edwin Cheung for their selfless support. Their unified efforts had showcased a genuine spirit of Men for and with others. Francis called upon our alumni to carry on this virtue by furthering their support to the annual Marathon Campaign and credit card sign-up.
An auction of two masterpiece watches donated by Franck Muller, our title sponsor of the Alan Tam and Tam Fundraising Concert, was held in the later part of the dinner. After rounds of bids by different alumni, Mr Francis Yuen won the mart. The fund received was donated to the Foundation for the Dream Campaign.
